The birth of this collection of historical mechanical calculating machines, which today comprises more than 1200 pieces and is the largest in the world, dates from the 1970s. In those days mechanical calculators were rapidly being ousted by electronic ones, bringing to an abrupt end the development of complex mechanical machines lasting for over 300 years. This inspired the founder of this collection, when he was a student of mathematics, to begin collecting these machines, covering a period from the first beginnings in the 17th century to their demise two decades ago.
